Chapter 8
Twenty miles in one night. Adam walked from sundown to sun up, stopping only when he saw the buildings of Brighton off in the distance. He was exhausted, and his legs were unsteady, unsure of themselves. He collapsed against a tree, falling in amongst its roots, and fell into a deep sleep.
He had the sensation of falling, but he stood still. Again, he was in the room with the two chairs. This time however, he was standing next to the wall, more observing than taking part in his dream. He leaned against the wall, and crossed his arms over his chest. In the two chairs sat two people, a child, and some one hidden in shadow. As he w
Feet thumped on the damp grass. They were covered in muck and dirt. Some bled. All ran. A war cry rose up in the dark, accompanying the town bell that now rang urgently. Distorted shadows stretched and leapt across fallen logs from the starlight above. As far as they dared go, soldiers set up a defense, surrounding the village. Torches were lit all around, and sweat began to bead on Kaynen's brow. He reached up to wipe it away, eying the darkness past the torches warily. Any second, and those beasts will be upon us he thought. He readjusted his grip on his crude sword. The war cries grew louder, and immediately fell silent, signaling t
That smell I sniff the air, and the smell grows stronger. What is that smell? I focus my thoughts, and I realize what it is. I jump off of my couch, landing on the ground with a thud. I look up at the clock, its ticking ringing in my ears, and it seemed as if it were laughing at me. I should have gotten it three minutes ago. Why didn't the timer go off!? I race into the kitchen, and sweat began to bead up on my forehead. I rush to the oven, and look inside.
My brownies. My precious brownies. They sat in the oven, burning, shriveling up in the heat. I feel their pain as if it were my own. This could only be done by one man. I look at th
Adam walked through the woods all night. He shivered, rubbing his hands over his arms, trying to generate some warmth. The only thing that kept him going was the thought of his murderous revenge. He rambled on to himself, saying how he'll kill each one of them.
He decided he'd reach civilization; then he'll begin his hunt. And so he walked. He was walking in the general direction of the compound, knowing that they had to live nearby. The moon had just given way to the sun, letting it take its place in the sky and allowing day to come, when Adam reached a road. He kept his hood on as the sun slowly rose above the mountains, wrapping himself u
Alfred was gazing out the stormy window when a knock came at the door. "Come in." he said, watching as a horse drawn carriage rolled across the cobblestone streets. A dog across the street was seeking comfort, scratching at the doors to shops and homes as it was pelted by the rain.
"Alfred." A small, melancholy voice said. Alfred visibly tensed at the sound. He turned slowly and looked upon a woman, his blue eyes locking with her green. Her wet brown hair fell across her face, and she reached up to move it aside.
"Rose." He said. Memories of their past together flashed through his mind. The promises they had made to each other, the love the
"So your name is Justin, right?" Claire asked me. We'd been riding for almost an hour in the cramped metal boat. I wasn't entirely sure how it was being propelled, there was an engine, but it didn't look as if there was any gas in it. However, the propeller in the water was spinning all the same.
"Yeah. Justin Tallon. You're Claire?" I said. I looked up at her, and she smiled back at me.
"That's me, dark magician." She said. She looked over at Alex. "He's Alex, and a light magician. We're siblings."
"Light and dark working together, eh? Didn't think that'd happen." I said, laughing softly. They laughed too, but I felt they already heard th
Two scientists sit in a room behind a one way mirror. A teenager, no more than fifteen, lay strapped to a steel table as soldiers stand at guard, guns pointed at his head. A scientist flicks a syringe, and begins to inject its contents into the teenager's arm.
He squirmed and his eyelids fluttered, but nothing more. Soon he passed out. A scientist behind the one way mirror leaned forward, over a microphone. "Did it work?"
"I've no idea. We'll have to run some tests when he wakes up." The one with the syringe replied.
"Well, get us when he comes around." The first scientist said, and then he motioned for his companion to follow him as he le
By the time we reached civilization again, it was well into the evening. We decided to try the library, and use the computers there. As we walked in, the librarian told us, "We're closing in five minutes. Make it quick." I nodded my thanks, and hurried towards the computers.
Stephanie sat at a computer next to me, and said, "So, how do we do this?"
"Don't worry, I'll find out where they went." I said, and began doing my searches. Several times the librarian came over and told us to leave, but we pleaded for just a few more minutes.
After a few searches, I discovered their mailing address didn't change, which means they probably didn't move

So, for some reason my mom got it in her head she wanted horrible food, so we went to McDonalds. I feel really sick now >_< The last time i went to McDonalds, it was okay (I went with my bro and his group of friends and had a hashbrown thing.) but the other time i went i asked for a cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato because they have weird names for their foods so i just described what i wanted. I also clearly stated i wanted NO mustard and NO ketchup. Twice. I got my meal and all it was was bread, meat, cheese, and lots and lots of ketchup and mustard. Then i took it back and got wilty lettuce and felt a little sick. i will now never go t
